History

The District & Sessions Court, Imphal West located at Cheirap Court Complex, Uripok, Imphal, Manipur, came into existence vide Government Notification No. 2/62/2012-Leg/L dated 16th May, 2015 by renaming the erstwhile District & Sessions Court, Manipur West . With its establishment at the top of the judicial hierarchy at the district level, it exercised its jurisdiction over the territorial areas of Imphal West, Tamenglong and Chandel Districts. On December, 8, 2016, the Government of Manipur created 7 new districts in the State by bifurcating the existing ones and territorial jurisdiction of the Court was increased to Imphal West, Tamenglong, Chandel, Noney and Tengnoupal districts.
Later on, vide Government Notification No. 4/85/2022-Judl/L: dated 6th July, 2022, the District & Sessions Court, Tamenglong was established having territorial jurisdiction over Tamenglong District functioning from 09.07.2022.
Again, vide Government Notification No. 4/21/2023-Judl/L(CDL)/e-file No. Judil-2/76/2025-SEC-LAW: dated 3rd September, 2025, the District & Sessions Court, Chandel was established with territorial jurisdiction of Chandel and Tengnoupal Districts and became functional from 06.09.2025.
At present, the District & Sessions Court, Imphal West is functioning in Imphal West and Noney Districts of Manipur.
